Avoiding commitment can become a real problem if you let it. It can affect your relationships, your work habits and even your health and fitness.

Here are four ways that we can avoid commitment:

  1. We modify it: “I only had a bit of sugar”
  2. We trivialize it: “The evidence is weak that sugar is bad for you.”
  3. We compensate: “I exercise so much that it doesn’t matter how much sugar I eat”
  4. We deny: “There’s no evidence that it makes a difference”
