Mark David Dehesa, known by his colleagues to be hard working asked to be driven to the hospital last Friday where he later died. The company is now looking at taking life-balance more seriously.
I’m not against hard work. I wouldn’t be where I am today without it. The problem is in the mindset. Having spent 13 years as a personal trainer to some of the top business people in the country I started to notice two types of mindsets that both equally create results.
The chaser mindset is motivated to go somewhere. The present moment to the chaser is a means to the future. Things need to get done and only once achieved can they think to relax. But for this mindset the goal is never reached because the goal keeps moving further.
The celebrator mindset lives in the moment. The goal of the celebrator is to be present and not somewhere else. The work still gets done but the goal is about them and now. When the goal is about them and now and not something in the future then there’s nothing to be achieved and instead they celebrate every day. Since the goal is already achieved they’re relaxed and have nothing to be anxious about.
The chasers and their goal-oriented mindset is always busy and that busyness creates its own momentum. The further and further they go the more they get lost in their own adrenaline for the chase. The celebrator celebrates. They see the flowers blooming, the birds singing, the sun rising and they celebrate it. Then they relax without tension.
