I was driving home when I received a text. I looked down at my phone to see who it was when I looked up I was on the other side of the road. Luckily there was no other car coming or you wouldn’t be reading this post.
If I was in a self-driving car that wouldn’t have happened. Technology isn’t distracted, it’s efficient. Check out this video I found of a bot operating surgery on a grape. Bots will eventually replace humans in efficiency type jobs. I’ve written about it here, here and here.
But if that’s the case, what will humans do?
Exploration is inefficient: Siri and Google give you the answers but they don’t give you the questions. Asking the right question takes imagination and creativity – something we do better than bots.
Art is inefficient: Art is the opposite of efficient, it’s chaotic and abstract. When things become routine art makes it different.
Emotion is inefficient: Robots are perfect and no one connects with perfect. Vulnerability is the bridge to connection – that’s why we hope that the underdog wins in a movie. Human to human emotion work is here to stay.
