All this news about the US has got me thinking a lot about patriotism.
My whole life I’ve been told it’s a must so I never questioned it. I’ve been indoctrinated into thinking patriotism is a rule as a citizen. But the more I think about it the more rediculous it sounds.
I mean why would we ignorantly cling to the morals and practices of a country and believe it to be the best just because we happen to be born there?
I’m all for the individual.
We’ve all seen how crazy people can act in crowds. The collective unconscious is like a magic spell on people. You can see this with regular individuals who would otherwise never act on their own – all of a sudden join a riot.
When someone has nothing to be proud of their last resort is to turn to the pride of the country they were born in. Ready to fight blindly to compensate for their inferiority.
Take a look at the people who enjoy waving flags and you’ll see that they’re not the type of people that deserve to have one.
Why not live by your own values? Why not be for all of mankind?
As I write this I’m reminded of a song.
“Imagine there’s no countries
It isn’t hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace
You may say that I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will be as one”
