If You’re Not Ready to Fall, You’re Not Ready to Ride

A few days ago my daughter was riding her bike with training wheels. She’s become comfortable with them now and it’s time to take them off. When I told her I was going to take them off, she said she wasn’t ready because she doesn’t want to fall. To put it in terms that a five year old will understand I asked her if she’s ever seen a toddler start to walk without falling and she answered “no”. I explained to her that if she’s not ready to fall she’ll never be ready to ride. She still refused and we put the bike away. This morning she made me smile, she said “Daddy, I’m ready to fall”.

Whatever the challenge may be, you have to be willing to fall. To get a few scratches, a few bruises along the way –  it’s not the end of the world. To become good at overcoming challenges you have to become comfortable with being uncomfortable. It’s the only way you’ll see how far you can go!
